Dr. Angela Michelle White serves as the Senior Vice President for Strategic Enrollment and Retention Management (SERM) and Associate Professor of Biology at 星空无限传媒. In her new role as the Senior Vice President for SERM, she oversees the development and implementation of data-driven initiatives to enhance recruitment, retention, student success, and financial aid strategies. Previously, she served as the Dean of the former JCSU University College and Student Success, in which she established four new evidence-based success and retention initiatives that yielded a 3% increase in persistence, 72% increase in spring-to-spring enrollment, a 13% increase in retention rate for first-time students, a 19% increase in enrollment, and a 62% increase in the number of student-athletes with a cumulative GPA greater than 3.0.
Dr. White holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Science in Biology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Psychology from North Carolina State University.
With a rich 20-year career in education, Dr. White spent 13 years at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, culminating in her role as Assistant Dean of Student Success for the College of Science and Technology. As the Assistant Dean of Student Success, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic vision. Under her leadership, the College鈥檚 undergraduate enrollment increased by 9%, freshmen enrollment increased by 39%, and the first-time, full-time retention rate increased by 6%. She successfully established a revenue-generating corporate partnership structure, which significantly boosted funding for student success initiatives. She developed a transformative scholarship enrichment program, providing increased financial support and opportunities for STEM students. Her innovative evidence-based advising model improved sense of belonging, student retention and success rates. Additionally, her efforts led to a notable increase in enrollment for previously low-producing programs, showcasing her effectiveness in driving institutional growth and student success.
In addition to her professional appointments, she is a fellow of the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education (PULSE), the 2025 American Psychological Association (APA) Division 15 program co-chair and serves on several NSF-funded project advisory boards. As a Critical Educator and Scholar-Activist, she is dedicated to dismantling existing educational and social inequalities and constructing socially just and culturally relevant pedagogies, policies, practices, and programs.
Dr. White's research focuses on racial identity, science identity, science self-efficacy, metacognition, mixed methods, student success, and STEM achievement among African American students. Drawing from critical race theory, her work explores the impact of power dynamics and societal structures on the experiences and identities of African American/Black students in STEM fields. Her publications have been featured in top-tier journals such as Contemporary Educational Psychology, Race Ethnicity and Education, and Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering.
Currently, Dr. White leads a National Science Foundation Broadening Participation Research (BPR) project entitled 鈥淭he Development of a Multidimensional STEM Identity Measure to Increase the Retention and Success of African American Students at an HBCU.鈥 As the co-founder of NoireSTEM LLP. and founder of Angela M. White Educational Consulting Firm, LLC, she actively contributes to initiatives that aim to enhance access and achievement for African Americans in STEM degree programs and careers. Dr. White is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
