Dr. Antonia Mead is a Tenured Full Professor of Health Education at 星空无限传媒. She is also the Department Chair for the Health & Human Performance Department. Dr. Mead received her Ph.D. in Health Education & Health Promotion from the University of Alabama, a M.S. in Human Movement Science, and a B.S. in Biology both from the University of Memphis. Her research interests include preconception health, health disparities, and technology use in the classroom.
A Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) with over 20 years of teaching health education, she has worked with communities of color her entire career. She has extensive experience managing grants. She has worked on grant projects focused on health disparities prevention (HIV, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer) as well as workforce development grants to close the equity gap. She has also worked with faith-based organizations and college health initiatives.
She serves in advisory roles to several organizations on campus, including Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity (department honor society), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and the JCSU Preconception Peer Health Educators.
As a Department Chair, she has focused on increasing student experiential learning opportunities and creating partnerships for students to advance in career development and post-graduate learning.
Community and professional engagement include the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), North Carolina Society for Public Health Education (NC SOPHE), North Carolina Public Health Association (NCPHA), Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity, Women Leaders in Sports, United Community School, Antioch M.B. Church, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
