Dr. Latoya Brooks-Key is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work in the Master of Social Work Program within the College of Business and Professional Studies at 星空无限传媒 who joined the faculty in August 2019. In addition to being a social work instructor, she is a licensed independent social worker of clinical practice (LISW-CP) in South Carolina and a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.鈥疍r. Brooks-Key is passionate about assisting students in achieving academic excellence, wellness, wholeness, and emotional balance to effectively work with their clients, groups, organizations, and communities.
Dr. Brooks-Key's work occupies the intersections of clinical social work and sexology. Social work practice provides support and assistance to individuals, families, groups, and communities dealing with various challenges, including mental health issues, social/political injustices, and life cycle adjustments. Sexology adds to social work practice, allowing social workers to specialize in the study of human sexuality, sexual function, and sexual health. Sexology encompasses various aspects of human behavior, including sexual counseling, education, and therapy for individuals, couples, and communities managing sexual difficulties or seeking to enhance their sexual well-being.
Dr. Brooks-Key has presented at numerous national and international conferences on sexuality, mental health, and diversity. As an educator, clinician, and academic for over two decades, her research and clinical interests include general mental health issues, heart-centered hypnotherapy, individuals with compulsive sexual behaviors, sexuality, and intimacy problems, women's health, and wellness, LGBTQIA+ communities, Bondage, Dominance, Discipline, Submission, and Sadomasochism (BDSM) communities, holistic and Indigenous mental health healing modalities, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, and African Centered Spirituality and social work practice.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality and a Master of Social Work from Widener University, an MA in Health Education with an emphasis on Family Life and Sexuality Education from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University.
