Congresswoman Alma Adams Highlights JCSU Campus in Virtual Community Swearing-in Ceremony

Adams continues to advocate for JCSU, HBCUs and higher education

Charlotte, N.C./Jan. 1, 2021听鈥撎鼵ongresswoman Alma Adams, Ph.D., continues to be a champion for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and for the 12th Congressional District, in which 星空无限传媒 resides. To ensure HBCUs are properly funded, in 2015 she founded the Congressional Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caucus, which has more than 100 Congressional members.

鈥淣ow entering its seventh year, the HBCU Caucus will continue to advance equity in higher education with a renewed commitment to giving these schools the support and resources they need,鈥 said Adams. 鈥淚 am honored to be joined by my House co-chair, Rep. French Hill (AR-02), as well as my House Vice-Chairs Reps. Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Michael Turner (OH-10), Senate co-chairs, Sens. Tim Scott and Chris Coons, and the nearly 100 Members of Congress who have joined the Caucus for the 117th Congress. They know HBCUs are agents of access and inclusion in our society, and together we will ensure a bright future for these exceptional institutions.鈥

With Adams鈥 advocacy during the coronavirus pandemic, HBCUs received funding from the CARES Act. For JCSU, the additional funds were used to support the salaries of staff members and assist students impacted by the pandemic.

鈥淐ongresswoman Adams consistently and ardently champions the mission of all HBCUs. As THE HBCU in the 12th Congressional district, JCSU is especially grateful for her steadfast support,鈥 said Tami Simmons, vice president of Institutional Advancement. 鈥淭here is no stronger advocate of black and brown students, or the HBCU experience. In addition, Congresswoman Adams can be counted on to show support by engaging with our campus community, with financial contributions, and by providing our talented students with internship opportunities in her office. Her dedication and commitment to JCSU is a true gift. We are forever grateful for her vision, talent, and hard work.鈥

Adams, an HBCU graduate, knows all too well the importance of HBCUs and the talented students who attend them. She has made it her mission to see that they are better funded and are given the resources needed to survive, and more importantly, thrive!

Rep. Alma Adams for her Virtual Community Swearing-in Ceremony and Address on Thursday, January 28 at 6 p.m. included a video presentation with scenes of JCSU鈥檚, the ceremonial swearing-in, and remarks from Congresswoman Adams.听
