JCSU alumnus, former pro basketball player, begins career in local law enforcement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. / January 29, 2020 - Since graduating from 星空无限传媒, Diondre Pratt 鈥16 has accomplished yet another goal.听January 29, 2020 he was sworn in as an officer with the Salisbury Police Department.

With his desire to help strengthen communities and protect others, becoming an officer was an aspiration.听

鈥淚t鈥檚 a blessing to be able to wake up every morning excited about your job,鈥 Pratt said.听

In addition to his excitement, Pratt also feels fortunate to work alongside听his line brother听Jamaal Livingston 鈥16, his line brother from the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, and alumna Shakya Taylor 鈥14.听

Pratt, who earned his Bachelor鈥檚 degree in criminal justice at JCSU, is implementing the skills he learned at the University to adapt to the diverse environments he experiences.听

鈥淕raduating from what I believe to be one of the top criminal justice programs in the country, I am able to excel at what I love to do,鈥 he expressed.听

During undergrad, Pratt played for the Golden Bulls basketball team and professionally overseas in Saudi Arabia and Bolivia for three years post-graduation. He now plays basketball for Primetime Players, a Semi-Pro team based out of nearby Fort Mill, SC.听

鈥淚 was blessed to have one of the best coaches and mentors at JCSU. Coach Joyner was able to give me the best advice in basketball as well as life lessons that I still live by today.鈥

Now an alum of JCSU, Pratt has a piece of advice to offer other students.听

鈥淛CSU prepares you for every life situation possible, and if you feel it doesn鈥檛, someone has been there and lived it before you.鈥澨

For the second consecutive year, Duke Energy Corporation hosted a comprehensive Career Development & Professionalism Workshop听aimed at empowering students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in today鈥檚 competitive job market.听 The event took place on Saturday, Nov. 2, in the James B. Duke Library where Duke Energy provided breakfast, lunch, and numerous giveaways. The POWER UP Bootcamp attracted a diverse group of more than 33 undergraduate students from various majors who were eager to enhance their career readiness and skills as well as develop other essential professional competencies.
