Two Golden Bulls chosen for NC Governor鈥檚 HBCU internship program

CHARLOTTE, N.C./June 6, 2018听鈥撎齁CSU鈥檚 Brianna Glymph 鈥19 and Braxton Gambrell 鈥20 were among the 50 students from across North Carolina chosen to participate in the N.C. Governor鈥檚 Historically Black Colleges and Universities Internship Program.

鈥淭his program is absolutely crucial in helping to link talented students from our state鈥檚 historically African American institutions with Fortune 500 corporations through internships,鈥 said UNC System President Margaret Spellings. 鈥淚 congratulate all of the interns who were selected and wish them the best in their future endeavors.鈥

Students kicked off the program with an orientation at N.C. Central University in Durham. The program鈥檚 purpose is to connect students who attend the state鈥檚 HBCUs with the state鈥檚 Fortune 500 companies. The internships also provide participating institutions with the opportunity to develop long-term partnerships with critical industry allies. The interns benefit from the work experience while businesses benefit from accessing an untapped, diverse talent pool.

Glymph is working with GMS Estimators June 1-July 31, 2018, while Gambrell interns at Wells Fargo.

鈥淚鈥檓 so excited to represent not only JCSU but all HBCUs in this program,鈥 Glymph said. 鈥淚鈥檒l be soaking up as much knowledge as I can while gaining real-world experience toward my goal of becoming a public relations specialist. It鈥檚 an incredible opportunity.鈥

Other students in the program attend Bennett College, Saint Augustine鈥檚 University, NCCU, N.C. A&T State University, Livingstone College, Shaw University, Fayetteville State University, Elizabeth City State University and Winston-Salem State University

For the second consecutive year, Duke Energy Corporation hosted a comprehensive Career Development & Professionalism Workshop听aimed at empowering students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in today鈥檚 competitive job market.听 The event took place on Saturday, Nov. 2, in the James B. Duke Library where Duke Energy provided breakfast, lunch, and numerous giveaways. The POWER UP Bootcamp attracted a diverse group of more than 33 undergraduate students from various majors who were eager to enhance their career readiness and skills as well as develop other essential professional competencies.
