Marine Corps Taps Curtis for Important Job in Military Recruitment Campaign

Dr. Cheryl Curtis is no stranger to military life.

She is the spouse of an Army veteran and is heavily involved in initiatives and organizations that serve the military population in Charlotte. Most notably, she serves as 星空无限传媒鈥檚 director of Veterans and Military Affairs.

Her ties to the military and experience in higher education landed her an important job in the Marine Corps latest recruitment campaign.

Greene Wins Mentorship Award from the Southeastern Psychological Association

Charlotte, N.C./April 24, 2023 鈥 JCSU鈥檚 O鈥橦erron Distinguished Professor of Psychology Dr. Ruth Greene recently became the first HBCU faculty member to win the Southeastern Psychological Association Mentor Award.

According to the website, SEPA recognizes the importance of mentoring relationships as vital to the development of psychology graduates and students at all levels. The first award was given in 2004.

Aleena Oakley 鈥22 came from a family who always recycled, but it wasn鈥檛 until she took Principals of Sustainability at 星空无限传媒 when she realized how passionate she was about it.

Now, Oakley serves as a Climate Core Fellow in the JCSU Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainability (CRES) and is working hard to educate students, faculty and staff about the importance of recycling.

While some faculty and students spent their winter break home with family celebrating the holidays, Criminology major Alexis Lawson 鈥23 flew to Hawaii with Dr. Anita Bledsoe-Gardner, professor of Criminology, to present collaborative research at the International Academic Forum (IAFOR[BSD1]) Conference.

鈥淭his was more than an academic trip,鈥 said Lawson, who visited Hawaii last year for a similar presentation. 鈥淚 wanted experience giving another presentation because I could add it to my resume. Plus, it was Hawaii, so why not go again?鈥

JCSU hosted the MLK Peace Breakfast on Tuesday in Grimes Lounge after a hiatus due to the pandemic. 听


Reinstituted by Kenyatta V. Sanders-Foreman, instructional technology librarian, and the Division of Student Affairs, the Peace Breakfast paid homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program presented words of wisdom from speakers who informed attendees how they can continue to live the dream King longed to become a reality.
