�ǿ����޴�ý is one of 34 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the second annual HBCU Diversity in Tech Summit. This year’s summit was held on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The event also included Congresswoman Alma Adams Ph.D., members of the HBCU Caucus and 47 leading companies in the technology industry.��

�ǿ����޴�ý’s new Director of Public Safety, Jermaine Cherry, is wasting no time getting to work. The chief officially joined in July and is outlining his plan for the school year, before students arrive for the fall semester. With a background in campus policing, at East Carolina University and North Carolina A&T State University, Cherry is hoping to bring his expertise of partnerships, student engagement and traditional community policing to JCSU.

This year JCSU students had an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and culture of Israel. Traveling with chaperones Dr. Cindy Kistenberg and Kendal Mobley, the group saw Caesarea, a Roman city built by King Herod the Great in honor of Augustus, enjoyed rafting on the River Jordan, and visits to Nazareth, Capernaum, and traditional sites of the Sermon on the Mount and the feeding of the 5,000.��

Congratulations are in order for �ǿ����޴�ý associate professor of political science, Dr. Terza Lima-Neves and the student-run sustainability village. Lima-Neves, nominated for HBCU Female Faculty of the Year Award, announced her nomination on Twitter, saying “Yo! I just found out that I’m a finalist for HBCU Female Faculty of the Year Award by HBCU Digest. I can’t believe it. Thank you.”

By 2022, the sports analytics market is expected to skyrocket to $4 billion. Yet even as top international players are duking it out for industry supremacy, an assistant professor of computer science at �ǿ����޴�ý is poised to make just as big an impact on the data-charged future of sports.

This fall Anthony Casper, assistant professor of theater, is leading JCSU thespians in a production of “Home,” Nov. 1-4, 2018. But outside of the Arts Factory’s Black Box theatre, he can be seen on commercials airing on local cable networks, in billboard and Internet ads, and the 2017 film “An Act of Terror” starring Denzel Washington’s daughter, Olivia Washington.

Christina Jones’ acceptance into the inaugural cohort of JCSU McNair Scholars program was a leap toward her goal of earning a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline. Cheering her through the many steps leading up to that accomplishment is her mentor, Dr. Anand Gupta.

On Oct. 17, 2018 Dr. Brian M. Jones, dean of the College of Arts and Letters and the College of STEM, joined representatives from the state’s third-largest university, a renowned culinary school and the state’s biggest community college to discuss the state of education in Charlotte.

Dr. Cheryl Curtis was appointed publications board coordinator for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) on June 1, 2018. Over the course of the three-year appointment, she will serve as the liaison between the editors of all 10 ACPA publications, amplifying the published perspectives of diverse student, faculty and staff researchers.

Susan G. Komen Charlotte named Tami Simmons, vice president of Institutional Advancement for �ǿ����޴�ý, among the inaugural class of “More than Pink Women,” an exclusive group of eight women who are leaders in the fields of medicine, business, media, science and education. The eight women were selected to represent the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. in her lifetime.
