Faculty and staff filed into Jane M. Smith Memorial Church Wednesday morning, where Dr. Valerie Kinloch 鈥96, 15th president of Johnson C. Smith, addressed the group for the first time during the Opening of School Conference. The bi-annual conference, held a few days before the start of each semester, gives campus leadership the opportunity to share JCSU updates. This year, Kinloch set an energetic tone for the semester to come.听

Public speaking is one of the most common fears shared amongst people from all walks of life. But Assistant Professor of Communications Arts Dr. Jasmine M. Corbett knows the skill of communication is the key that opens doors to bright futures.

That鈥檚 when she decided to partner with her colleagues in the Communications Arts program to start The VoiceOver Project at JCSU in hopes of engaging students in meaningful projects to improve their grades and become more comfortable with communicating.

JCSU STEM Program Receives Prestigious $1 Million U.S. Department of Homeland Security Grant

The Interdisciplinary Studies student had no idea that this lucky draw would lead him to the opportunity to commentate a live NBA 2K game between Hornets Venom and Celtics Crossover Gaming at the Spectrum Center.

Two-hundred students, 20 of whom earned their Master of Social Work degrees, crossed the stage at Bojangles Coliseum on Sunday, May 21, 2023, to receive their degrees from 星空无限传媒.

The keynote speaker was Grammy庐-Award-winning multiplatinum singer, songwriter, producer, author and actor Anthony C. Hamilton, who delivered an empowering speech to graduates urging them to answer those who ask 鈥渨hat are you doing here,鈥 with 鈥淚 am here to give you the best of me.鈥

Graduates and their families joined JCSU faculty and staff the evening of Friday, May 19, 2023, in the Jane M. Memorial Church for the University鈥檚 sesquicentennial Baccalaureate Service featuring a sermon from the Rev. Dr. L. Bernard Jakes.

The Baccalaureate Service, an annual tradition within the Christian faith, is a religious send-off to graduates who are transitioning from the life of a student to that of a professional. Jakes鈥 powerful sermon focused on preserving the history of African- and Black Americans.

Barings President Eric Lloyd Inspires Crowd at Inaugural Lecture

Eric Lloyd came from humble beginnings in a small town in Virginia. Today, he serves as president of the global asset management firm, Barings.听But his journey to Barings came with many high, lows, changes and decisions that formed him into the leader he is today.听

He took time on Monday, April 24, 2023, to discuss his path to leadership during the inaugural Dean鈥檚 Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by Barings. During the discussion, which was moderated by Clarence D. Armbrister, 星空无限传媒鈥檚 14th president, Lloyd highlighted the tenants of good leadership.
