Dr. Vijaya L. Gompa Appointed as Dean of the College of STEM
ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ announces the appointment of Dr. Vijaya L. Gompa as dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She currently serves as professor of Mathematics and she served as head of the Department of Mathematical, Computing and Information Sciences at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. Gompa was selected after an extensive national search and will begin her tenure at JCSU on June 1, 2020.

ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ received three awards at the 2020 HBCUgrow LEAD Conference on April 7, 2020. Dr. Laura Colson McLean, dean of Metropolitan College of Professional Studies, and two JCSU students participated in the virtual conference and shared their involvement with Road to Hire, a partnership with Red Ventures and winner of the Platinum Choice LEAD Innovation Award.

Social Work Spotlight: Dr. Helen Caldwell

Three Charlotte universities are banding together to support racial healing and transformation. As the Charlotte Racial Justice Consortium, UNC Charlotte, ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½, and Queens University of Charlotte will collaborate to listen to Charlotte’s many racial truths, encourage aÌýcommunity that understands its history of race and racism, and develop student, university, and community leaders who work across our region towards truth, racial healing, and equity.

Lima-Neves challenges students to design course syllabus for Black women and hip-hop
Dr. Terza Lima-Neves, associate professor of Political Science ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½, took a different approach to teaching her hip-hop class, POL 491: Seminar on Black Women and Hip-Hop music. The course, intended to be a collaborative effort between students and the professor, is the first of its kind at JCSU.

Professor Jemayne King, who teaches Sole Food: Digestible Sneaker Culture at ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½, knows all too well the value sneakers have on trends. King’s class is the only one of its kind taught on a collegiate campus in the world. His niche has gained him global media coverage, most recently with ESPN’s docuseries, SneakerCenter.
