Basketball Alumnus develops training program, gives back to youth
Former 星空无限传媒 Golden Bull Richard Daniels, Jr., is giving back an opportunity that was given to him at a young age.
Daniels is the owner of a basketball training program called NeverOutWorked, or N.O.W. for short, which specializes in individual training that is tailored to each child, specifically from the ages of 8 and up. The training is for boys and girls.

Students study abroad in Israel
This year JCSU students had an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and culture of Israel. Traveling with chaperones Dr. Cindy Kistenberg and Kendal Mobley, the group saw Caesarea, a Roman city built by King Herod the Great in honor of Augustus, enjoyed rafting on the River Jordan, and visits to Nazareth, Capernaum, and traditional sites of the Sermon on the Mount and the feeding of the 5,000.听

Congratulations are in order for 星空无限传媒 associate professor of political science, Dr. Terza Lima-Neves and the student-run sustainability village. Lima-Neves, nominated for HBCU Female Faculty of the Year Award, announced her nomination on Twitter, saying 鈥淵o! Federal grant funds JCSU Transportation Institute for high school students
星空无限传媒鈥檚 Smith Tech Innovation Center was awarded a contract to host the Summer Transportation Institute. The North Carolina Department of Transportation manages the institute, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration.
JCSU collaborates with CMS for Impact Extravaganza
星空无限传媒 Associate professor of mathematics, Dr. Dawn McNair, in collaboration with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools held their annual impact day. This year the focus was on mathematics and technology. The 18-month joint effort, funded by the Belk Foundation, provides teachers at select CMS schools the tools to build 3D printers that catapult teaching methods in the classroom. Teachers and students gathered at the university鈥檚 New Science Center to display their 3D printers and the items they created.

JCSU first HBCU to offer Lactation Consultant Training Program addressing Black breastfeeding crisis
North Carolina has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the country, with Black infants dying at a rate more than twice that of Non-Hispanic White infants. While it is proven that breastfeeding is protective against infant mortality, the Black population has the lowest rates of breastfeeding duration. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 62% of Black infants born in the US in 2010 initiated breastfeeding, compared to 79% of White infants. After six months, only 36% continued to breastfeed, compared to 52% of White infants.

JCSU celebrated the end of International Women鈥檚 Month with a lecture about how feminism is represented in hip hop from a pan African viewpoint from one of our alumna.
Education, Industry and Congressional Leaders Convene for HBCU STEAM DAY
星空无限传媒 joined the Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus and the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Caucus for the second annual HBCU STEAM Day of Action on Capitol Hill. This annual event brings together education and industry leaders and Members of Congress for a collective day of advocacy for our nation鈥檚 102 HBCUs and their 300,000 students.
