The holiday spirit was alive at JCSU during Residence Life and the Student Government Association’s “An Evening with Santa.”

The event, held Saturday Dec. 1, 2018, brought dozens of children and their families from nearby Bruns Elementary, Charlotte Bilingual Preschool and the surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy a culturally resonant evening with Santa, Mrs. Claus and JCSU students as Santa’s elves.

On Saturday afternoon, November 17, 2018, an intimate gathering of local women met for a Ladies Tea at the Smith House to formally welcome First Lady Denise McGregor Armbrister to Charlotte.

�ǿ����޴�ý celebrated its historical bond with First United Presbyterian Church (USA) at the church's Homecoming on Nov. 11, 2018. They are two of the oldest African-American institutions in Charlotte, and have deeply entwined roots.

�ǿ����޴�ý students��celebrated Veteran’s Day by recognizing veterans and active duty military members with notes of appreciation. The university also hosted officers of the Coast Guard who introduced students to additional resources that can enhance their college experience.

JCSU students have been giving back with gusto for the 2018 holiday season, via a series of community projects.����

On Nov. 11, 2018 students gave of their time and energy for Veterans Day with the Message in a Bottle campaign. More than 50 students showed up at the New Science Center to write messages of encouragement and support to local active-duty veterans. Landry Frison ’19, an active duty South Carolina National Guard, and Sameerah Williams ’19, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps,��also sat on a panel with members of the Coast Guard who came to speak to students about scholarship monies and opportunities for officer training school.

By 2022, the sports analytics market is expected to skyrocket to $4 billion. Yet even as top international players are duking it out for industry supremacy, an assistant professor of computer science at �ǿ����޴�ý is poised to make just as big an impact on the data-charged future of sports.

Chamberlyn Smith enrolled at �ǿ����޴�ý straight out of high school, but arrived already possessing sophomore-level credit hours.

This fall Anthony Casper, assistant professor of theater, is leading JCSU thespians in a production of “Home,” Nov. 1-4, 2018. But outside of the Arts Factory’s Black Box theatre, he can be seen on commercials airing on local cable networks, in billboard and Internet ads, and the 2017 film “An Act of Terror” starring Denzel Washington’s daughter, Olivia Washington.

Christina Jones’ acceptance into the inaugural cohort of JCSU McNair Scholars program was a leap toward her goal of earning a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline. Cheering her through the many steps leading up to that accomplishment is her mentor, Dr. Anand Gupta.

�ǿ����޴�ý is partnering with Next Level Leadership, Inc. to create a space where tomorrow’s leaders can grow, develop and flourish. Next Level, a non-profit leadership training organization, is intentionally developing well-informed, knowledgeable African-American leaders for the purpose of ushering our communities, cities and state into the future.
