Gracyn Doctor 鈥16 was enjoying the summer before beginning her senior year at JCSU when bullets from the white supremacist鈥檚 gun changed her life forever. Doctor鈥檚 mother, Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, was one of the nine parishioners killed in the massacre at Emanuel AME Church.
Alumnus, city councilman appointed chair of COVID-19 task force
Many 星空无限传媒 alumni are working to make a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic, including Charlotte City councilman Malcolm Graham 鈥85, who serves District 2. Graham is the chair of Charlotte鈥檚 COVID-19 Housing Task Force, which provides relief for rent and mortgages, in addition to assisting the city鈥檚 homeless population.

Dr. Vijaya L. Gompa Appointed as Dean of the College of STEM
星空无限传媒 announces the appointment of Dr. Vijaya L. Gompa as dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She currently serves as professor of Mathematics and she served as head of the Department of Mathematical, Computing and Information Sciences at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. Gompa was selected after an extensive national search and will begin her tenure at JCSU on June 1, 2020.

JCSU program director selected as a panelist for annual Women鈥檚 Symposium on Black Maternal Health
Rachel Davis, program director of 星空无限传媒鈥檚 Lactation Consultant Training Program, was a panelist for Rep. Alma Adam鈥檚 fifth annual Women鈥檚 Symposium on Black Maternal Health. The panel, which featured appearances from Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, was held April 16, 2020 during Black Maternal Health Week.
JCSU senior shares life on campus during pandemic
In March, the COVID-19 pandemic forced JCSU to move to remote learning for the remainder of the semester and restrict campus access to essential employees. Students living on campus were required to vacate. While the majority returned home to their families, not all students have that option. Tawanda Nyahasha 鈥20 is one of a handful of students, who with JCSU permission and supervision, remain on campus.
